SEO Basics: Techniques to Increase Site Traffic

Search Engine Optimization

SEO, or Search Engine Optimization is an online marketing technique that works by choosing keywords that attract the attention of web spiders, bots, or online crawlers. These programs are given a group of words to search for and scour the Internet looking for webpages and content that fit their search criteria. SEO can be used to increase traffic to your website, blog or page, if the technique is used correctly. The most basic SEO techniques that help to channel traffic to your site are described below.

Choose the right keywords

If you want high volume of traffic, you have to ensure you choose the right keywords for the topics that are represented on your blog or website. Good SEO is focused, detailed and specific. Select popular keywords that correspond to the themes of your site. Providing specific content in a niche market will reduce competition and will help you gain a higher search engine ranking.

Regular and quality content

Quality content is the best SEO technique to increase traffic. Ensure that you provide useful, intriguing and unique content for your readers. If you use the right keywords within your content and update your site or blog on a regular basis, bots will index your site more often, leading to higher page rank and more traffic.

Placement of keywords

In SEO, the correct keywords, their frequency and their location on a website are all important considerations. Placing keywords in a web page's meta data, such as the title and meta description will increase the relevancy of the site's search listings and bring you more traffic.

A simple way of using SEO to increase traffic is by repeating keywords within the content of your site. This can increase the visibility of your site, but if used inappropriately, can actually detract from your site's search engine ranking. Instead of merely repeating words in a long list, good SEO uses keywords naturally and consistently throughout an article.

Use a sitemap

A sitemap is a list of pages within a website that are accessible to bots, crawlers or Internet users. It can be produced in a document as a planning tool, and is very useful in terms of SEO because it grants search engines access to all content within a site and helps to speed up the indexing process.

Using crosslinks within your page helps to improve your site's visibility. Both one-way or two-way links can be referenced as "Resources" or "Additional Information". These hyperlinks can lead to a website with helpful, useful or relevant content and increase traffic to your site.

We love the program you wrote for us. We use it everyday and couldn't be happier with it. It is so easy to use even my husband who swore against it is a believer. Thanks again for everything!
